Our Story

The idea is simple; create a venue catering to girls of all ages. A store for everything a girl would love. The result was Girl Boutique.
Lori Guy, Girl Boutique founder, believes shopping should be fun and it is that conviction which served to inspire her first store back in August of 2005. With a wealth of experience in the retail industry, the Iowa native's penchant for fashion stems back to her childhood days. She later came to Columbia to attend Stephens College's prestigious Fashion Merchandising school, but similar to numerous Midwesterners, quickly grew tired of the limited selection of chic clothing available within the area. Confident she could bring east and west coast trends to mid-Missouri she began her initial boutique with a mere 300 square feet. The innovative entrepreneur bought just a few trendy items including designer denim, unique tops and dresses from New York, L.A, Italy, and Paris. The rest is history; the appropriately named boutique opened its doors to much local acclaim and soon thereafter began franchising additional locations and anticipates expanding further in the near future.
Girl boasts an impressive list of trendy and hip designers including the likes of Splendid, Voom, Tulle, Velvet, Paige Denim, Seven for All Mankind, Michael Stars and J & Company. The intimate boutique provides unique clothing and one-of-a-kind items not easily found within department and chain stores. Outfitting girls of all ages, the site appeals to young ladies in their teens, their mothers and even their grandmothers.
Well-known for her impeccable sense of style within the Columbia community, Guy has always gravitated toward creating looks that embrace the femininity of a piece but perhaps more importantly the fun, flirty and unique aspects of a style. Bringing the fashionable pieces seen on your favorite celebrities to the Midwest has always remained one of the goals of Girl. But above all, it aims to make shopping fun. It's all about the experience and inspiring girls to feel fashionable, comfortable and confident.
Because after all, that's what being a girl is all about.
